The Psychoanalytical Process
The psychoanalytic journey aims to bring unconscious contents that influence an individual's thoughts, emotions, and behaviors into consciousness. It primarily occurs through speech, in a safe therapeutic environment where the patient can freely express their feelings, thoughts, and memories. Based on clinical observation, psychoanalysis is structured on a dynamic model of the mind, introducing fundamental concepts such as the unconscious, repression, desire, and defense mechanisms.
One of the pillars of psychoanalysis is the existence of the unconscious, a reservoir of repressed contents that influence an individual's actions and thoughts without their conscious awareness. Repression occurs when certain desires or memories are considered unacceptable by consciousness and are therefore pushed into the unconscious. These contents can manifest indirectly through dreams, slips of the tongue, and neurotic symptoms.
Psychoanalysis seeks to make unconscious contents conscious, promoting the elaboration of internal conflicts and the consequent transformation of the subject.
Authors such as Alfred Adler, Melanie Klein, Donald Winnicott, and Jacques Lacan brought new perspectives and expanded the psychoanalytic field. Thus, psychoanalytic theory not only revolutionized the way we understand the psyche but also opened paths for new clinical approaches and reflections on subjectivity and culture.
The analytical process occurs through regular weekly sessions depending on the patient's needs. The time and results vary for each person, as each analysis follows a unique path.
